Accidents happen — you could take a bad fall and chip your tooth, your tooth could become discolored due to an illness or medication, or a sports accident could cause slight damage to your tooth. Our dental team at East Village Dental Center performs bonding and contouring to fix these small cosmetic flaws. A fast but effective treatment, bonding and contouring applies composite resin (also used for tooth-colored fillings) to mask discoloration, fill gaps between teeth, make a tooth longer, and even improve the shape of a tooth. For a great treatment to enhance your smile, schedule an appointment at our New York, NY office to learn more about how bonding and contouring can help you create a beautiful smile.

Dental bonding and contouring can improve gaps, chips, cracks, discoloration, tooth length, and other flaws. Bonding and contouring is an affordable cosmetic treatment that can normally be done in a single appointment. It does not require the prep work of crowns or veneers; however, it is not as strong and usually doesn’t last as many years as other options. Bonding and contouring is good for minor flaws, so if you need bigger improvements, a different cosmetic or restorative treatment may be a better option. At your appointment, we will listen to your needs and concerns and then discuss if bonding and contouring is the best treatment option for you.

The clinic was clean and dentist was knowledgeable in his profession.

Bonding and contouring is usually completed in a single appointment in our office. As soon as you're comfortable in the treatment chair, we will begin applying the tooth-colored composite resin to the desired areas of your teeth. The bonding material will be set, with more layers added as needed. Once the layers of composite resin are set, we will shape and polish the composite resin and your natural enamel for a beautiful finish.

After bonding and contouring, you should avoid staining food and beverages (such as tobacco, coffee, and tea) for two days. The bonding material can chip and stain, so don’t bite hard objects like ice, hard candy, pens, pencils, and your fingernails, and you should brush your teeth right after eating. Teeth that have been bonded and contoured should be cared for like natural teeth with daily flossing, brushing, and mouthwash. Dental cleanings at our New York City dental office can help to polish away stains from the composite resin. With proper care, bonding and contouring may last as long as ten years. During your annual dental examination, we will help you decide if your cosmetic bonding and contouring procedure should be done again to maintain your appearance.
